Vacation Precautions

Flight delays, a sick child, lost luggage, a reservation that didn't get recorded or exceeding your budget can rob you of pleasure and make a vacation stressful. But if you should really be robbed on a vacation, your whole trip may be blown. Take the following steps so your next trip won't be ruined by a robbery.
Make photocopies of important trip documents, identification and credit cards before you leave. Bring one set with you and leave another at home. (Some people even scan these documents and e-mail them to themselves so they're easily accessible on line in case of loss. Check with your Internet provider to see if there's a secure way of doing this.) Having access to these documents can speed up replacement.
Bring only what you need. The less you carry, the less you can lose. So leave expensive electronic items, jewelry and extra credit and debit cards at home.
Don't carry all your valuables in one place. Otherwise, if you're pickpocketed or lose the wrong suitcase, you may lose everything.
Keep your most important items such as cash, traveler's checks, credit cards and your passport in a security "wallet" worn under your clothes.
Make use of your hotel safe. Carry only what you need for each day. Lock everything else away.
